In 1988 I got my first ridgeback, MALCOLM. I had seen a ridgeback a few years earlier, It had been shipped from California to Pittsburgh to a friend of mine. It was such a regal and noble puppy, I knew this was the breed for me. When I lost my shepherd of 13 years, it took me one phone call and a few weeks later little Malcolm was coming home. For Malcolm's first birthday, I got him, SIMONE.
You can never have just one. We lived in a 35,000 sq. ft. hangar called THE BARKER HANGAR , located at Santa Monica, Ca.. By 1997, I had six ridgebacks and had moved from the hangar to a near-by house but I still maintained some runs and roadworked the dogs at the airport. I managed "The Barker Hangar" and it’s six acre complex, where we housed small aircraft and the entertainment industry for 23 years. I have a commercial instrument pilots and aircraft mechanic’s licenses. I also sang and danced in the opening ceremonies of the1984 LA Olympics.
